Falcons Remain Perfect at Home with 81-57 Victory

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (5-1) continued its strong play inside the McChesney Student Activities Center as they rolled past Concordia College-Selma (1-7), 81-57. The Falcons had five players score in double-figures and used a strong presence off the bench to earn the win. UM forced the Hornets to turn the ball over 19 times which led to 21 points.

UM's bench outscored the CCS reserves 36-15 which proved to be a huge advantage for the Falcons. Senior Manal Cali (Northampton, England/Northampton School for Girls) and junior Tiaren Young (Forestdale, Ala./Minor) came off the bench to score 10 and 13 points, respectively and lead the team in rebounds with nine each. Junior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) led the team in scoring with 14 points in just 15 minutes of action. She was 4-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Senior guard Alex Sanabria (Miami, Fla./Miami) chipped in 12 points and four assists while junior Shan Jones (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) scored 12 points and had eight boards.

The Falcons outscored the Hornets 32-18 in the paint and only trailed in the game for two minutes.

UM started out slow in the first half as the Hornets took the first lead with a pair of free throws. At the 13:43 mark of the first half the score was 6-6 as neither team could get their offense going. The Falcons went on a 12-3 run over the next six minutes to open up a 18-9 lead but it would not last as the Hornets began to claw their way back into the game. CCS cut the lead to just two with 4:26 remaining and continued to keep it close for the next minute but the Falcons got an offensive spark and closed out the half on a 11-2 run to end the first up 35-24.

The second half was never close as the Falcons held a double-digit lead the entire way to the final buzzer. The Falcons largest lead came with just 1:12 left on the clock as they led 81-51 but the Hornets were able to score six points in the final minute to cut the lead to 81-57 as the buzzer sounded.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2:00 p.m. as they host Talladega College.
