Vanderpool Signs Welch for the 2010-11 Season

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball head coach Mechan Vanderpool has announced the signing of another recruit for the 2010-11 season. Taylor Welch will join Vanderpool’s first squad in her first season as head coach of the Falcon women’s basketball program.

Welch will enter as a junior after transferring from Illinois Central College. Last season she averaged 7.8 points per game, grabbed nearly two rebounds a contest and shot a consistent .815 from the free-throw line. In her freshman season, the 5-6 guard averaged 11.4 points per games, drilled ninety-one three-pointers and ranked 24th in the country in three-point percentage. That season she was also named All-Region.

Welch prepped at Salem Community High School and was named All South (IL), was named All-Conference twice, given an All- State Honorable Mention, earned five All-Tournament honors and was named the Wildcat Team MVP.
