Falcons Soar During Spring Semester
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 64 student-athletes named to either the President’s List or Dean’s List at Montevallo for the spring 2012 semester. Baseball and women’s soccer led all Montevallo teams with nine athletes being named to the two lists while volleyball and women’s cross country tied for third with eight total student-athletes. To be named to the President’s List a student must compile a 3.8 GPA or higher for the semester while a 3.5 or higher earns the student a mention on the Dean’s List. Women’s cross country led the way on the President’s List with six student-athletes while women’s soccer led the way on the Dean’s List with six student-athletes as well.

Godsey Named Assistant Coach at Northwestern State
NATCHITOCHES, La. – University of Montevallo women’s basketball assistant coach Brittany Godsey was recently named an assistant coach at Division I Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Godsey will be in charge of recruiting and post players for the Lady Demons.

One Hundred Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to 2011-12 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 100 student-athletes named to the 2011-12 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. The 100 is an improvement of 18 over the 82 named last year to the Honor Roll from UM. Men’s soccer once again led all Montevallo teams with 20 members being named to the list. Baseball finished in second with 17 while women’s soccer was third with 14. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

Women’s Basketball Announces Summer Day Camp and June Jam Dates
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Head coach Cindy Hilbrich of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has announced the dates of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball Day Camp and June Jam. The Day Camp is open to boys and girls from ages 6-17. The dates are June 11-14 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The June Jam is June 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is a play date is for any high school team. Teams must have at least eight players and can only have two coaches on the bench. Each team is guaranteed three games.

Falcons Fall in Conference Quarterfinals, 63-55
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team’s (11-16) season came to an end at the hands of #9 USC Aiken (24-3) in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals, 63-55. For the second time this season the Falcons took the Pacers to the limit but fell just short in the end. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) saved her best performance of the season for the final game as she scored a career-high 24 points while hitting 11-of-14 from the field. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) chipped in 13 points and also dished out seven assists.

Falcons Clinch Postseason Berth in Regular Season Finale, 55-48
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – With a trip to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on the line the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (11-15, 6-11 PBC) downed North Georgia College and State University (12-14, 6-11 PBC) for the second time this season to secure the fourth and final spot in the PBC West Division. The Falcons were led by senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) who had 16 points, five assists and a pair of steals. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) came up just short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. She also added three blocks and three steals. Prior to the game the Falcons honored their four seniors including McClure, Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.), Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) and Taylor Welch (Salem, Ill./Illinois Central College).

Welch Awarded PBC All-Academic Honorable Mention
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior guard Taylor Welch (Salem, Ill./Illinois Central College) of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team was awarded an Honorable Mention on the PBC All-Academic Team. Welch was one of two athletes given an honorable mention.

Falcons Play 4Kay Event a Huge Success
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team hosted its annual Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness event this past Saturday (Feb. 18). The Falcons were able to raise just under $1,300 and are still growing that number with the sale of their Play 4Kay t-shirts. Play 4Kay is a global, unified effort for a nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is the official Play 4Kay charity.

#4 Lakers Swamp Falcons, 78-44
MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (10-15, 5-11 PBC) fell on the road at #4 Clayton State University (25-2, 15-1 PBC), 78-44. Despite the loss the Falcons postseason hopes still remain after the Saints of North Georgia fell at home to Columbus State. The Falcons will now play a win or go home game against North Georgia on Saturday for the final tournament slot in the Peach Belt Conference West Division. UM was led by senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) against Clayton as she scored 15 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Second Half Run Lifts Falcons, 51-41
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (10-14, 5-10 PBC) used a strong second half to down visiting Georgia College and State University (4-20, 2-13 PBC) and keep their postseason hopes alive. UM outscored the Bobcats 30-19 in the second half to win 51-41. The Falcons used a total team effort to pick up the win with just one player reaching double figures. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) led the team with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Women’s Basketball to Host Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team would like to turn Bank Trust Arena pink on Saturday, February 18 at 1:30 p.m. for their annual Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness game. The Falcons will honor survivors at the game and will also be hosting a silent auction with the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Some of the items featured in the auction are hotel stays, movie tickets and autographed Alabama apparel.

Cougars Clip Falcons, 55-46
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (9-14, 4-10 PBC) fell on the road at Columbus State University (14-9, 9-5 PBC), 55-46. The Falcons were led by freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds good for her second double-double of the season. Senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds while junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) added seven rebounds.

Women's Basketball Head Coach Cindy Hilbrich Featured on NBC 13
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - University of Montevallo women's basketball head coach Cindy Hilbrich was featured on NBC 13 this afternoon. Hilbrich was on to talk about the upcoming Play 4Kay event that UM is hosting this Saturday, Feb. 18. The breast cancer awareness event will feature a silent auction that will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as well as a halftime ceremony to honor survivors. Lady Hurricanes Blow Past Falcons, 69-51
AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (9-13, 4-9 PBC) ran into a hot-shooting Georgia Southwestern (16-6, 8-5 PBC) squad which shot over 50 percent for the game and dropped the Falcons, 69-51. UM led early in the first half but a run by the Lady Hurricanes midway through the first half gave GSW a double-digit lead which they would not surrender the rest of the way. UM was led by junior Trena Moore-Smith (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) who scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards. She also dished out three assists and made three steals. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) added 10 points and five boards.

Sixty-Two Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to Fall 2011 Honor Roll

Falcons Survive Scare by Saints, 62-59
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (9-12, 4-8 PBC) overcame a second half deficit and held off the Saints from North Georgia College and State University (11-10, 5-7 PBC) late in the game to win, 62-59. The Falcons were led by freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) who poured in 21 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) added 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds. She also had three assists and a pair of steals.

#5 Clayton State Smothers Falcons, 85-50
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (8-12, 3-8 PBC) fell to defending National Champions and fifth-ranked Clayton State University (20-2, 10-1 PBC), 85-50. The Falcons shot 45.1 percent from the field but the Clayton State defense forced 27 UM turnovers which converted into a 31-6 advantage in points off turnovers. UM was led by senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) who scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots. Junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) chipped in 13 points and six boards while freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) had 12 points and five boards.

Falcons Tame Bobcats, 61-47
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (8-11, 3-7 PBC) picked up a key Peach Belt Conference victory on the road at Georgia College and State University (4-15, 2-8 PBC), 61-47. The Falcons led almost the entire way using a balanced attack. UM had three scorers in double-figures and all eight Falcons who stepped on the court scored at least one point. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) led the way with 18 points and five rebounds while hitting 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. She also led the team in steals with four and tied for the lead in assists with three. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Falcons Comeback Falls Short, 64-59
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-11, 2-7 PBC) once again dropped a heartbreaker this time to Augusta State University (10-10, 5-7 PBC), 64-59. The Falcons trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half but used a furious comeback to cut the lead just one with 1:12 left on the clock but that would be as close as they would get. UM was led by freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) who scored 16 points. Junior Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) chipped in 14 points while senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) led the team in rebounding with six and scored nine points.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-10, 2-6 PBC) suffered another heartbreaking loss this time at the hands of 15th-ranked USC Aiken (16-2, 9-1 PBC). The Falcons were led by junior Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) who scored 13 points. Senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) added 11 points while freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) chipped in eight points and a team-high six rebounds.

Falcons Hold Off Saints, 58-55
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-9, 2-5 PBC) used a late first half run to take a 10-point lead into halftime over host Flagler College (2-15, 1-9 PBC) but had to hold off a surging Saints squad late in the second half to win, 58-55. The Falcons were led by a trio of seniors including Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.), Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) and Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College). Harris scored 14 points while McClure and Seymore each chipped in 11.

Pirates Steal Victory from Falcons, 58-56
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (6-9, 1-5 PBC) led for 38 of the 40 minutes played against Armstrong Atlantic State University (10-6, 5-4 PBC) but a late comeback by the Pirates gave Armstrong a 58-56 victory. The Falcons had the Pirates on the ropes up 12 with 7:25 left to play but an 18-4 run by Armstrong to close out the game squashed UM’s chances. The Falcons were led by freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) who had 16 points off the bench. Senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) chipped in 13 points while senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) added 11 points and seven rebounds.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (6-8, 1-4 PBC) gave Lander University (11-3, 6-0 PBC) all the Lady Bearcats could handle but in the end it was the visitors who squeaked by with a two-point victory, 52-50. The Falcons were led by junior Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) who scored 15 points. Senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) added 10 points while senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) chipped in eight points and a team high-14 rebounds.

Falcons Earn First Peach Belt Victory of the Season, 67-57
FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (6-7, 1-3 PBC) picked up its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season over Francis Marion University (5-7, 1-5 PBC) on the road, 67-57. The Falcons held the Patriots to just 26.9 percent shooting while connecting on 42.5 percent of their own shots. UM had five players reach double-figures while holding FMU to just one. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) led the way with 15 points while hitting 13-of-16 from the free throw line. Senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Falcons Drop PBC Contest, 58-49
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (5-7, 0-3 PBC) led by two points at halftime but an early second half run by UNC Pembroke (5-8, 2-3 PBC) gave the Lady Braves the lead and eventual victory. UM was led by junior Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) who scored a game-high 18 points including four three-pointers. Senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) had a huge double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Second Half Slump Hurts Falcons in Loss
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (5-6) closed out the 2011 portion of their schedule with a 63-57 loss at home to the University of West Alabama (5-6). The Falcons came out in the first half on fire hitting 46.7 percent of their shots and taking a 10-point lead into the halftime break. The second half was another story as UM hit just 25 percent from the field and converted just seven field goals in the half compared to 14 in the first half. UM saw its double-digit lead disappear as the Tigers took advantage of the cold streak, winning the game 63-57. UM was led by senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) who had 18 points, six rebounds and four blocks coming off the bench. Senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench as well.

Falcons Fall In Heartbreaker, 59-57
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (5-5) traveled south to face Faulkner University (9-4) in an NCAA versus NAIA battle. The Falcons led almost the entire game but a late rally by the Lady eagles gave Faulkner a two-point victory. UM had a pair of chances late in the contest but both fell short as the Falcons fell, 59-57. The Falcons were led by senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) who scored 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) added 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Falcons Double Up Bears, 68-34
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (5-4) ended its recent losing skid with a dominating 68-34 victory over Miles College (2-3). The Falcons used a balanced team effort to capture the win with sophomore Alex Strickland (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville), senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) and senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) leading the way. Strickland and McClure each had 11 points while Seymore added 10.

Falcons Fall to Columbus State, 73-51
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-4, 0-2 PBC) suffered its second Peach Belt Conference loss of the season to Columbus State University (5-2, 1-0 PBC), 73-51. The Falcons looked to be in control early in the contest but a late first half run gave the Cougars the lead and they would never relinquish the advantage as they took home a 22-point victory. The Falcons were led by senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) who had eight points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) also scored eight points in the loss.

Hurricanes Blow by Falcons, 101-57
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-3, 0-1 PBC) lost its Peach Belt Conference opener at home to Georgia Southwestern State University (8-1, 1-0 PBC), 101-57. The Hurricanes jumped out to a 11-2 lead in the opening four minutes and never looked back. The Falcons were led by junior Trena Moore-Smith (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) who had 16 points and four assists both of which were team highs. Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) added 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Women’s Basketball Shirts Available for Purchase
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has shirts available for purchase just in time for the upcoming holidays. The Falcons are offering a white long sleeve shirt featuring the Falcon head and the words “Montevallo Womens Basketball” They also have a gray short sleeved shirt and a gray “hoodie” available for purchase that feature the words “Womens Basketball” with the Falcon head in the background. For information on purchasing any or all of the shirts contact head coach Cindy Hilbrich by e-mail or come to any of the upcoming home basketball games where the shirts will be available for purchase at the concession stand.

Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road at UAH, 77-67
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (4-2) traveled north to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville (4-1) and fell 77-67. The Falcons were led by freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) who recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds including 11 offensive boards. UM led just one time during the game and it came early in the second half but the Chargers used a late run to pull away for the 10-point victory.

Hilbrich Signs Four Recruits for the 2012-13 Season
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo women’s basketball head coach Cindy Hilbrich announced the signing of four recruits for the 2012-13 season. Jerrisa Green, Jasmine Newsome, Jasmine Thomas and Jackie Thompson will all join the Falcons as freshman in the Fall of 2012.

Falcons Drop Golden Bears, 54-45
FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (4-1) traveled north to face Miles College (0-1) in the Golden Bears season opener. The Falcons dropped their hosts 54-45 to capture their fourth win of the season. Sophomore Alex Strickland (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) led the Falcons with 10 points while freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) added nine.

Falcons Down In-State Rival UWA, 64-59
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (3-1) won another close game at the Argonaut Tip-Off Classic with a 64-59 victory over in-state rival University of West Alabama (1-4). The Falcons were led by a trio of players including senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.), senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) and sophomore Alex Strickland (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville). McClure had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Harris and Strickland each had 10 points.

Falcons Survive Overtime Scare, 69-67
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (2-1) won a see-saw battle with the University of West Florida (1-3) 69-67 on the road in overtime. The Falcons trailed by as many as nine points in the first half and led by as many as 14 in the second half but the game would be decided in overtime. The Falcons received a giant boost in the overtime period by senior Taylor Welch (Salem, Ill./Illinois Central College) who found her range from the outside as she scored six of the Falcons 11 points in the overtime period from a pair of long range jumpers. She ended the game with 12 points which all came from three-point baskets as she hit 4-of-6 on the night.

Falcons Fall in Heartbreaker, 62-57
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-1) fell at home to the University of West Georgia (1-0) 62-57 despite leading most of the game. The Falcons took control early in the first half but a late run by the Wolves gave UWG the one-point halftime lead. UM again took the early lead in the second half and once again a late run ended the Falcons hopes of a victory. Senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) led the Falcons with 12 points and four rebounds while junior Zena Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Northeast C.C.) fell just shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Hilbrich Captures First Career Win in Debut
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-0) picked up a victory in its season opener against the University of North Alabama (0-1) at home today (Nov. 12), 65-54. The win marked the first in head coach Cindy Hilbrich’s career as she made her debut on the Montevallo sideline. UM was led by senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) who scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as she hit 7-of-9 from the field.

Falcons Take on Division I Samford
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team traveled 30 minutes up the road to take on Division I Samford University in an exhibition contest. The Falcons got some valuable experience prior to tip-off of the 2011-12 season this weekend. UM was led by senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) who scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior transfer Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) chipped in 12 points while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. The Falcons fell 83-48 in the contest as Samford had three scorers in double-figures and forced UM into 25 turnovers.

Women’s Basketball Spends the Day at Family Connection
ALABASTER, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team recently spent the day at Family Connection in Alabaster, Ala. The players and coaches spent time with the teenagers who were staying in the center. They played volleyball and also sat down and talked to the young men and women.

Montevallo Women’s Basketball Releases Schedule
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo women’s basketball head coach Cindy Hilbrich announced the 2011-12 women’s basketball schedule. The Falcons have 26 contests including 12 home games inside BankTrust Arena. UM will play a home-and-home series with defending National Champions Clayton State University and will also host Lander University who finished the season ranked sixth and USC Aiken who finished up the season ranked 13th.

Falcons Add Three for 2011-12 Season
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball head coach Cindy Hilbrich announced the addition of three recruits for the 2011-12 season. Taylor Beverly, Teanna Boxley and Zena Nasiloski will join the Falcons this fall.
