Falcons Double Up Bears, 68-34

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (5-4) ended its recent losing skid with a dominating 68-34 victory over Miles College (2-3). The Falcons used a balanced team effort to capture the win with sophomore Alex Strickland (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville), senior Tiffany McClure (Montgomery, Ala./Tallahassee C.C.) and senior Shavonne Seymore (Hartsville, S.C./Northwest Florida State College) leading the way. Strickland and McClure each had 11 points while Seymore added 10.

Strickland had five rebounds to add to her points while McClure added a team-high four steals. Seymore recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior Davia Harris (Memphis, Tenn./Three Rivers C.C.) flirted with a triple-double all game as she had eight points, nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Freshman Taylor Beverly (Brandon, Miss./Northwest Rankin) and junior Teanna Boxley (Mesa, Ariz./Arizona Western College) added seven points each. Beverly also tied for the lead in steals with four.

The Falcons shot 40 percent from the field while hitting 60 percent of their free throws. UM held the Bears to just 21 percent shooting and did not allow a three-pointer on eight attempts. UM out-rebounded the Bears 54-36 and outscored Miles 28-18 in the paint.

UM opened the game on a 10-4 run and never looked back as the Lady Bears found themselves in a deep hole throughout the game. UM's largest lead in the first half came on the final basket as Nasiloski hit a free throw to put UM up by 17, 29-12.

The Falcons continued their strong play in the second half and once again the largest lead in the period came on the final basket as Strickland hit a three with nine second remaining to put UM up 68-34.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2:00 p.m. as they travel south to Faulkner University for a non-conference game.
