Falcons Finish Seventh at SCAD Spring Invitational
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s golf team finished seventh at the Savannah College of Art and Design Spring Invitational. UM was led by junior Emily Gibson (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate) who finished fifth overall and just two strokes behind the leader. SCAD’s Nikki Stewart won the tournament in a playoff over Berry’s Jayne Curtis and USC Beaufort’s Kaitlin O’Sullivan. All three shot a two-round score of 153 while Gibson had a 155.
The only PBC golfer to top Gibson was Armstrong Atlantic State’s Victoria Bennett who had a two-round score of 154.
USC Beaufort won the tournament followed by AASU, Northwood (Fla.), SCAD, Shorter, Berry and Montevallo. UM beat Thomas (Ga.), Webber International, Oklahoma Baptist, St. Olaf, Lee, Trevecca Nazarene and King.
The fifth place finish was Gibson’s seventh top-10 finish this season and her sixth top-five finish.
Sophomore Emma Breen (Swindon, England/Kingsdown) finished in 19th place with a score of 163. Senior Rachel Shaner (Madison, Alabama/Bob Jones) placed 50th with a two-round score of 176.
Freshmen Kayla Witt (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) and Kaylee Hale (Dothan, Ala./Northside Methodist) rounded out the Falcon golfers as they finished 64th and 68th, respectively.
The Falcons will return to action Thursday, April 1 as they take on Birmingham Southern College in a dual match at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail - Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham.
