Falcons Take Two from North Georgia
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s golf team traveled to North Georgia College and State University to compete in a pair of matches. The Falcons finished second in a tri-match with NGCSU and Shorter on Tuesday before beating NGCSU head-to-head on Wednesday. UM was led by sophomore Emma Breen (Swindon, England/Kingsdown) who led the field on both days. Breen shot a two-under par 70 in the first match to win by eight strokes and then shot a three-over par 75 in the second match to win by three strokes.
The Falcons fell to Shorter College on Tuesday but defeated NGCSU. UM was 36 strokes behind Shorter and 56 strokes ahead of NGCSU. In the second match the Falcons won by 40 strokes.
UM’s second finisher on both days was senior Rachel Shaner (Madison, Alabama/Bob Jones) who finished tied for fourth on Tuesday and tied for third on Wednesday. She shot an 81 in the first match and an 82 during the second match. Freshman Kayla Witt (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) was UM’s third finisher as she tied for eighth on day one and placed fifth on day two.
Senior Angela Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) competing in her second and third matches of her career finished tied for 11th on day one and seventh on day two.
The final UM golfer was senior Katie Johnson (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson) who was competing on the golf team for the first time. She finished 14th on the first day beating out Ariana Stamatiou of NGCSU and she placed ninth on the second day once again defeating Stamatiou.
The Falcons next stop will be the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
