Gibson Named PBC Player of the Year
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Emily Gibson (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate) of the University of Montevallo women’s golf team was named the first ever Peach Belt Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year. Gibson also becomes the first Montevallo athlete in any sport to be named a Player of the Year in the Peach Belt Conference. Joining Gibson on the All-Conference First Team was sophomore Emma Breen (Swindon, England/Kingsdown).
Gibson led the PBC in stroke average with a 75.5. She was named a PBC Player of the Week four times after winning three of the seven tournaments she played in. She picked up the first of two straight wins at the Newberry Invitational in February, followed by a win at the Ann Rhoads Shootout. She also won the West Georgia Invitational in late March. Gibson has six of the lowest nine single rounds shot in the PBC this season and finished in the top 10 in every tournament she played in.
Breen ranks sixth in stroke average in the conference with an 81.1 and holds the lowest round shot by any PBC women’s golfer this season. She shot a 70 at the tri-match between North Georgia, Shorter and Montevallo. She has one tournament championship, four top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes.
Gibson and Breen will lead the Falcons into battle today and tomorrow at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in Pine Mountain, Ga.
