Gibson Wins Inaugural Peach Belt Womens Golf Tournament
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Emily Gibson (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate) of the University of Montevallo women’s golf team lived up to her Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year billing as she used a come-from-behind performance to capture the first ever Peach Belt Conference Women’s Golf Tournament Title. Gibson trailed three golfers heading into the final round on Tuesday but shot a tournament-best 74 to capture the championship by two strokes. The Falcons as a team finished in third place just three strokes out of second position.
The Falcons finished behind Flagler and Armstrong Atlantic but finished ahead of UNC Pembroke, Columbus State and North Georgia.
Sophomore Emma Breen (Swindon, England/Kingsdown) finished ninth overall with a two round score of 164. Senior Rachel Shaner (Madison, Alabama/Bob Jones) came in tied for 11th with a score of 169. The final two UM golfers were freshman Kayla Witt (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) who finished tied for 17th and senior Angela Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) who finished in 25th.
The UM golfers will now await the announcement for the NCAA Region Tournament to be played on May 2-4.
