Gibson Closes out 2010 Season at NCAA Regional
SALISBURY, N.C. – Junior Emily Gibson (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate) of the University of Montevallo women’s golf team closed out the 2009-10 women’s golf season at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Super Region Two Tournament. Gibson finished in 13th-place just three strokes away from a playoff for a chance to move on to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Gibson headed into the final round on Tuesday in fourth-place overall but had a tough final round as she shot a season-high 82 in the final 18 to fall to 13th-place and just three strokes out of playoff contention.
She shot two of the best rounds of the tournament in the first two rounds as she opened up with a 73 on Sunday and a 74 on Monday.
Gibson who is ranked 18th in the country by Golfstat finished ahead of the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 14th, 15th and 17th ranked golfers in the country at the tournament.
She wraps up the season with a 75.8 stroke average and eight top-10 finishes in nine events. She won four tournaments on the year including the Peach Belt Conference Championship and was named the PBC Player of the Year and UM Female Athlete of the Year.
