Falcons Finish Fifth at Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Montevallo women's golf team finished fifth at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate hosted by Carson Newman College. The Falcons were one of three Peach Belt Conference schools at the event. Columbus State University finished second overall while North Georgia finished one spot back from the Falcons in sixth. UM was led by freshman Ashlee Beck (Athens, Ala./Ardmore) who finished tied for sixth overall with a two round score of 157. She shot a season low 75 during the second round of competition.

Freshman Megan Clyne (Aberdeen, Scotland/Harlaw Academy) finished tied for 23rd with a score of 165. She had a low round of 79 during the opening day. Junior Kaylee Hale (Dothan, Ala./Northside Methodist) finished in 29th with a score of 169.

The final two UM golfers were sophomores Tracey Marshall (Newfields, N.H./Heritage Academy) and Hilary Shaner (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) who finished 32nd and 38th, respectively.

As a team the Falcons shot 664 which was 25 strokes behind fourth place and 56 strokes ahead of sixth place. Shorter University won the event with a score of 627.

The Falcons will be back in action Oct. 3-4 at the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Montevallo Invitational hosted by UM at the Timberline Golf Course in Calera, Ala.
