Sixty-Five Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 65 student-athletes named to the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. Men’s soccer led all Montevallo teams with 13 members being named to the list. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

Esser, McIntosh and Rosato Attend NCAA Career in Sports Forum
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Three University of Montevallo student-athletes were among 400 student-athletes from around the country who attended the recent NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis, Indiana. Men’s soccer student-athletes David Esser (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain) and Austin McIntosh (Sheffield, England/All Saint Catholic) along with women’s soccer student-athlete Kristin Rosato (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) attended the event. The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is a four day event through which selected student-athletes explore and get educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on collegiate athletics. The conference lasted from May 11 till May 14.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game: Boys and Girls Club Support UM Baseball
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Boys and Girls Club of Montevallo showed their purple and gold colors on Wednesday, April 14 when they came to campus to support the University of Montevallo baseball team as the Falcons took on Delta State University. Enjoying a hotdog, chips, and soda complementary of the UM Athletic Department the 70 boys and girls club members enjoyed the game and danced in between innings to the chicken dance and YMCA.

UM Spends a Day in the Sun with Local Fifth Graders
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – On Thursday April 15 the University of Montevallo Athletic Department joined forces with Montevallo Connection to give 110 fifth graders an experience of higher education and collegiate athletics at the University of Montevallo. Something they will never forget! The purpose of the Montevallo Connection is to re-energize and further strengthen the partnership between the University of Montevallo faculty and the faculty in the Montevallo schools. The Montevallo Connection is dedicated to cultural, educational, athletic and professional exchanges that will enhance the educational experiences of both students in the Montevallo public schools and those at the University of Montevallo.

Montevallo Athletes Gain Valuable Experience at Youth Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On February 20th and 21st, the women’s soccer and volleyball teams from the University of Montevallo volunteered at the Lakeshore Foundation 2010 Magic City Youth Wheelchair Basketball Regional Tournament. The Lakeshore Foundation is an organization that enables people with physically disabling conditions to lead healthy, active and independent lifestyles through physical activity, sport, recreation and research.

Martineau Named to All-Southeast Region Third Team
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team was awarded one spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region Teams. Sophomore Natalie Martineau (Oakville, Ontario/Ecole Secondaire) was named to the Third Team. This is the first All-Southeast Region honor for any Montevallo women’s soccer player after the Falcons moved to the region this season. The Falcons had two All-South Region Third Team members last season.

Three Falcons Named to PBC All-Academic Teams
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team was awarded three players on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Teams. Senior Erin Duncan (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) and junior Alex Terhar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) were named Second Team All-Academic while sophomore Michaela Moertzsch (Peine, Germany/Gymnasium am Silberkamp) picked up a Third Team nod.

Falcons PBC Tournament Run Ends in Championship Game Loss
EVANS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (8-9-3) made history on Sunday as they became the first No. 8 seed to make it to the Championship Match of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Falcons had an unbelievable run knocking off No. 1 seed and nationally ranked Columbus State at home before traveling to Evans, Ga. and taking on No. 4 seed Georgia College and State University. The Falcons won that contest 2-1 and headed to the Championship Match to take on No. 2 seed and nationally ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University (15-3-3).

Falcons Unbelievable Postseason Run Continues with 2-1 Comeback Win over GCSU
EVANS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (8-8-3) continued its unbelievable postseason run as the Falcons toppled fourth-seeded Georgia College and State University 2-1 to make it to their third-straight Conference Championship game. The Falcons began the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the eighth and lowest seed in the tournament but with a 1-0 win over the No. 1 seed Columbus State on Tuesday and a 2-1 win over No. 4 seed GCSU this evening the Falcons have made it to the PBC Conference Championship Match against No. 2 seed Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Falcons Topple Four-Time Defending Champions No. 6 Columbus State in First Round of the PBC Tournament, 1-0
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (7-8-3) has made a statement in its first season in the Peach Belt Conference. The Falcons defeated No. 6 Columbus State University (15-2-3) on the road tonight (Nov. 3) in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The win guarantees there will be a new PBC Champion for the first time in four years. The Falcons won with an early goal and strong defense down the stretch knocking off the Cougars 1-0.

Falcons Ready to Begin their First PBC Conference Tournaments
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Both the University of Montevallo men’s and women’s soccer teams have qualified for their first Peach Belt Conference Tournament in the two programs histories. 2009 marked the first season for the Falcons in the tough Peach Belt Conference and both teams have excelled in their new conference making it to the conference tournament. The men will host Francis Marion University tomorrow, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. on Varsity Field while the women travel to Columbus State University for a 5 p.m. central time kick-off.

Falcons Clinch First Berth to PBC Tournament
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-8-3, 3-5-2 PBC) clinched a spot in the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament with a hard-fought 1-1 tie on the road against Georgia College and State University (9-5-5, 5-1-4 PBC). The Falcons lone goal came off the foot of sophomore defender Kristin Rosato (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) with 24 minutes left in regulation as she lined up a penalty kick and sent it past the keeper.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-8-2, 3-5-1 PBC) dropped a high-scoring contest at No. 7 Columbus State University (14-1-2, 7-1-1 PBC), 6-3. The Falcons fell behind early and a late comeback fell short as time expired. UM was led by a trio of goal scorers Ally Larese (Enterprise, Ala./Enterprise), Natalie Martineau (Oakville, Ontario/Ecole Secondaire) and Erin Duncan (Orlando, Fla./Olympia).

Falcons Topple Regionally Ranked Lander, 1-0
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (6-7-2, 3-4-1 PBC) picked up a huge 1-0 victory over the seventh ranked team in the Southeast Region Lander University on the road. The win keeps the Falcons postseason hopes alive as they currently sit in the eighth, final postseason spot, in the Peach Belt Conference with two matches to play. The Falcons were led by a pair of freshmen as Alyssa Maxwell (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) made eight spectacular saves in goal and Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) scored the go-ahead goal just three minutes into the second half.

Falcons Late Rally Falls Short, 3-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (5-7-2, 2-4-1 PBC) fell behind early against North Georgia College and State University (8-3-2, 4-2-1 PBC) and fell despite a late rally that led to one goal and a number of scoring chances. The Saints scored twice in the first 26 minutes and never looked back as they went on to win 3-1. The Falcons held NGCSU without a shot on goal for the final 43 minutes and played most of the second half on the NGCSU end.

Falcons Control Hurricanes in Win, 1-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (5-6-2, 2-3-1 PBC) dominated the Lady Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University (3-10-0, 0-7-0 PBC) holding them to just two shots while the Falcons fired off 31. UM controlled the ball for almost the entire match as they only allowed the ball into their own end on the two shot opportunities. The match was also Senior Day for four Falcons as Angela Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox), Brittany Correia (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain), Erin Duncan (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) and Hayley Gant (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) were honored following the win.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Playing in their third-straight overtime match the Falcons of the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (4-6-2) played to a tie with Florida Southern College (9-5-1). UM controlled much of the match but was unable to gain the game winner late.

Falcons Win in Overtime Thriller, 3-2
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (4-6-1, 1-3-1 PBC) captured its first Peach Belt Conference victory in thrilling fashion as the Falcons used a late comeback and an overtime goal to defeat USC Aiken (2-9-0, 0-6-0). The game was also the Falcons Kick For The Cure/Pink Polo Day and featured the Falcons wearing pink uniforms and using pink soccer balls provided by Select Sport America.

Falcons Lose Heartbreaker in Double Overtime, 3-2
MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (3-6-1, 0-3-1 PBC) suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road tonight (Oct. 8) in double overtime to Clayton State University (3-6-1, 2-2-1), 3-2. The Falcons led for most of the match but a late penalty kick goal by the Lakers sent the game into overtime. The Lakers scored the game winner midway through the second overtime to pick up the key conference win.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s and women’s soccer teams have moved their Saturday matches against USC Aiken to Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m., respectively. The Falcons will still hold their For The Cure/Pink Polo Day at the games on Sunday. Please come and show your support for the Falcons in their efforts to support the cause to find a cure for breast cancer.

Falcons to Host For the Cure Event on Saturday
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team is doing their part to increase awareness across campus and in the community by hosting a fundraising event. For the Cure – Pink Polo Day will be the theme of this Saturdays (10/10) doubleheader against USC-Aiken. All spectators are encouraged to wear pink to visually show their support for breast cancer awareness to the match. The women’s soccer team will also be taking the field in pink jerseys and playing with a pink ball.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (3-5-1, 0-2-1 PBC) took on No. 18 Armstrong Atlantic State University (9-1-2, 5-0-0 PBC) and fell 4-0 at home. The Falcons battled with the Pirates and created a number of scoring opportunities but AASU came out on top in the end.

Faculty and Staff Honored at Women's Soccer Match
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team honored a very special group of people before Tuesday nights match against the University of West Georgia. Coach Patricia Hughes selected the evening as women’s soccer’s Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. Each member of the women’s soccer team selected a faculty or staff member who has made an impact on them academically and personally this year or consistently throughout their time at Montevallo, and personally invited them to attend a pregame ceremony in their honor.

The Falcons out-shot the Wolves 19-13 but tied UWG with five shots on goal.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (2-3-1) took on the tough task of taking on the No. 2 ranked team in the country University of West Florida (7-0) on the road. The Falcons battled the entire 90 minutes and fell 4-0 despite freshman Alyssa Maxwell’s (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) five save performance in net.

Late Goal by Scott Lifts Falcons over Brevard, 1-0
BREVARD, N.C. – Freshman Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) scored her first career goal when it counted most. With 25 seconds left on the clock in double-overtime Scott beat the Brevard College (4-1) goalkeeper to give the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team (1-1) a much needed win on the road. The Falcons dominated play throughout the game and blasted BC’s keeper with 18 shots on goal and 25 shots total.

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team opened up its exhibition slate with a 3-2 win over Shorter College on the road. The Falcons were led by a trio of newcomers but the game-winning goal came at the foot of a veteran. Senior Erin Duncan (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) sent home the game winner in the second half against a tough Shorter squad.

Falcons Picked to Finish Fifth in PBC Preseason Poll
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team was selected to finish in fifth by Peach Belt Conference coaches today (Aug. 12). The Falcons received a vote for third, two for fourth, three for fifth, three for sixth and a single vote for seventh. The Lady Cougars of Columbus State University were picked to finish first for the fourth year in a row.

Balaam Named New Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach at UM
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Stacey Balaam has been named the new women’s soccer assistant coach at the University of Montevallo. Balaam becomes the first full-time assistant coach in the programs’ history.
