Falcons Control Hurricanes in Win, 1-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (5-6-2, 2-3-1 PBC) dominated the Lady Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University (3-10-0, 0-7-0 PBC) holding them to just two shots while the Falcons fired off 31. UM controlled the ball for almost the entire match as they only allowed the ball into their own end on the two shot opportunities. The match was also Senior Day for four Falcons as Angela Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox), Brittany Correia (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain), Erin Duncan (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) and Hayley Gant (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) were honored following the win.
Buonassisi made the most of her senior day as she led the team with eight shots including three on goal. She came away with the game winner just seven minutes into the second half as Natalie Martineau (Oakville, Ontario/Ecole Secondaire) fed her the ball behind the defense for a one-on-one with the keeper.
Freshman Paige Scott (Denman Island, British Columbia/Reynolds) was second on the team in shots with six while Martineau chipped in five. Seven other Falcons also had shots as well.
Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) picked up the shutout victory making just one save on the day.
The Falcons will return to action Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:00 p.m. as they host North Georgia College and State University for a Peach Belt Conference match.
