Falcons Clinch First Berth to PBC Tournament

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's soccer team (6-8-3, 3-5-2 PBC) clinched a spot in the Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament with a hard-fought 1-1 tie on the road against Georgia College and State University (9-5-5, 5-1-4 PBC). The Falcons lone goal came off the foot of sophomore defender Kristin Rosato (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) with 24 minutes left in regulation as she lined up a penalty kick and sent it past the keeper.

The Falcons will now wait for the conclusion of the Flagler College versus Columbus State University match which will take place tomorrow afternoon. If Columbus wins the Falcons will travel to CSU on Tuesday to take on the Cougars. If Flagler wins or ties the Falcons will travel to Armstrong Atlantic State University on Tuesday to take on the Pirates.

Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) had a career game as she made 10 saves on the day and kept the Falcons in the match the entire afternoon.

GCSU out-shot the Falcons 21-15 but both teams had an even number of shots on goal 11-11. Senior Angela Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) led the team in shots with five while freshman Jenna Kuzemski (Victoria, British Columbia/Belmont) had four shots.

Both teams played a scoreless first half with GCSU taking the slight advantage in shots 6-5. The first goal of the game came in the 54^th minute as GCSU scored from the right side of the penalty box. Just 12 minutes later the Falcons earned a penalty kick and Rosato stepped up to take her first penalty kick of the season and beat the keeper to tie the game.

The rest of the match went scoreless as both teams took numerous shots but neither was able to break through for the win.

The Falcons will next be in action this Tuesday, Nov. 3 versus either Columbus State University or Armstrong Atlantic State University.
