Twenty-nine Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department was third among East Division Gulf South Conference schools with 29 student-athletes named to the Gulf South Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Three individuals were named to their respective All-Academic Teams for the 2008-09 year. The Falcons trailed just the University of West Florida (41) and Valdosta State University (31) who each field softball and men’s tennis teams which adds to their total number.

Mangum and Kelly Named to All-GSC East Division Second Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team (10-9) received two slots on the All-Gulf South Conference East Division Second Team. Juniors Alex Mangum (San Antonio, Texas) and Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) were named Second Team All-GSC East.

Falcons Fall in Season Finale to North Alabama, 5-4
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (10-9, 1-4 GSC East) finished up its season with a 5-4 loss at home to the University of North Alabama (8-9, 3-2 GSC East). The Falcons wrap up their best season since 2003 when they finished 12-7. The Falcons finish fifth in the East Division just one spot outside the conference tournament.

Falcons Pick Up First Conference Victory of the Season, 7-2
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (10-8, 1-3 GSC East) won its first conference match of the season in a 7-2 victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The win marks the 10th victory of the year, the most since 2003 when the Falcons finished 12-7. This season also marks the first winning season since 2003 as well.

Falcons Fall in Conference Home Opener, 6-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (9-8, 0-3 GSC East) fell to the University of West Alabama (9-12, 1-2 GSC East), 6-1. Freshman Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) and sophomore Kelley Vaughn (Hoover, Alabama) picked up the lone win for the Falcons taking the No. 3 doubles 8-4.

Montevallo Falls to No. 6 West Florida, 9-0
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (9-7, 0-2 GSC East) dropped a hard fought match with No. 6 University of West Florida (13-3, 4-1 GSC East), 9-0. Junior Alex Mangum (San Antonio, Texas) put up the toughest fight in singles going down 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 match. Freshman Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) and sophomore Kelley Vaughn (Hoover, Alabama) picked up the most game victories on the day in the No. 3 doubles match falling 8-5.

Falcons Drown Tritons, 7-2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (9-4) returned to its winning ways against Sunshine State Conference opponent Eckerd College. The Falcons dominated the doubles matches winning all three before pulling away in singles winning four out of six. Junior Alex Mangum (San Antonio, Texas), freshman Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway), junior Emily Blackwood (Cullman, Alabama) and freshman Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) all went 2-0 on the day to lead the Falcons to victory.

Falcons Split During Trip to Georgia
VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (8-4, 0-1 GSC) won its sixth-straight match before dropping its first conference match of the year. The Falcons first headed to Fort Valley State University in the morning and defeated the Wildcats 5-2. The match had to end early due to weather but it did not stop the Falcons from gaining a large enough lead to capture the match. In the second match of the day the falcons headed to Valdosta State University for their first conference match of the season. The Lady Blazers were ready to go as they handed the Falcons a 9-0 loss.

Falcons Win Fifth Straight Match, 6-3
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (7-3) propelled its win streak to five-straight as the Falcons defeated Tuskegee University, 6-3. Juniors Emily Blackwood (Cullman, Alabama) and Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) and freshman Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway) all won two matches to help lead the Falcons to victory.

Falcons Dominate Stillman, 9-0
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (6-3) took to the road against Stillman College and for the second-straight match won in dominating fashion, 9-0. The Falcons only dropped 12 of the 88 games played.

Falcons Win Big During Trip to Georgia
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (5-3) traveled to both Georgia Southwestern State University and Albany State University on Friday (March 27). The Falcons picked up a pair of victories while dropping just two matches the entire trip. They first took on GSW and won 7-2 before heading to Albany State and winning 9-0.

Falcons Dominate Tuskegee, 8-1
TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (3-3) evened out its record with a strong performance against region rival Tuskegee University. The Falcons won eight of the nine matches played and were led by junior Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) and freshman Helene Nordgreen's (Bergen, Norway) sweep of the No. 2 doubles 8-0.

Falcons Defeat Southern Arkansas at GSC Crossovers
JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (2-3) traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to compete in the Gulf South Conference East/West Crossovers and took home a victory and a pair of losses. The Falcons started out the weekend with a 7-2 victory over Southern Arkansas University before falling to Arkansas Tech 8-1. On Saturday UM took on Henderson State University and fell by the narrowest of margins, 5-4.

Falcons Fall on the Road at North Alabama, 8-1
FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (1-1) took on the University of North Alabama in a non-conference match-up. The two teams will meet later on this season in a conference match. The Falcons fell 8-1.

Falcons Win Home Opener Versus Mobile, 6-3
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team (1-0) took on the University of Mobile (0-1) in the 2009 spring season opener defeating the Lady Rams 6-3. The Falcons won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles contests.

Falcons Take Down Central Alabama in Exhibition Match
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo tennis team opened the 2009 portion of their season with a exhibition match against Central Alabama Community College. The Falcons won 8-1 after winning all three doubles matches and five of the six singles.
