Falcons Take Down Central Alabama in Exhibition Match

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo tennis team opened the 2009 portion of their season with a exhibition match against Central Alabama Community College. The Falcons won 8-1 after winning all three doubles matches and five of the six singles.

Junior Alex Mangum (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Kelley Vaughn (Hoover, Alabama) combined to take the No. 1 doubles match 8-1 while junior Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) and freshman Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) won the No. 2 doubles 8-5. Freshman Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway) and junior Emily Blackwood (Cullman, Alabama) won No. 3 doubles 8-1.

Mangum won the No. 1 singles 6-0, 7-6 (8) while Kelly won No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Nordgreen took No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3 while Vaughn won No. 4, 6-2, 7-5. The final win came in the No. 5 singles match as Bolton won 6-0, 6-1.
