Falcons Win Home Opener Versus Mobile, 6-3

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo tennis team (1-0) took on the University of Mobile (0-1) in the 2009 spring season opener defeating the Lady Rams 6-3. The Falcons won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles contests.

Freshmen Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway) and Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) and sophomore Kelley Vaughn (Hoover, Alabama)  all went 2-0 on the day winning both in doubles and singles.

Junior Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) and Bolton combined to win the No. 2 doubles 8-0 while Nordgreen and Vaughn won No. 3 doubles 8-0 as well. The lone Lady Rams victory in doubles was an 8-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles match.

In singles the Falcons won the 3-6 singles matches. Nordgreen won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles while junior Emily Blackwood (Cullman, Alabama) won 3-6, 6-4 (3) in a tiebreak in the No. 4 singles match. Bolton and Vaughn swept the five and six singles matches, respectively, 6-0, 6-0.

The Falcons are now 1-0 on the season and will take on the University of North Alabama on the road Feb. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
