Falcons Win Fifth Straight Match, 6-3
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo tennis team (7-3) propelled its win streak to five-straight as the Falcons defeated Tuskegee University, 6-3. Juniors Emily Blackwood (Cullman, Alabama) and Kristi Kelly (Tallahassee, Florida) and freshman Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway) all won two matches to help lead the Falcons to victory.
Kelly and Nordgreen combined to win the No. 2 doubles match 8-4 and swept their singles matches. Kelly won the No. 2 singles 6-2, 3-0 before the TU player retired and Nordgreen captured the No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0. Blackwood picked up a No. 1 doubles win with the help of junior Alex Mangum (San Antonio, Texas), 8-6, before winning the No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-4.
The other Montevallo winner was freshman Ashlyn Bolton (Chattanooga, Tennessee) who took home the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-2.
The Falcons will return to the court on Thursday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. as they open up Gulf South Conference play at Valdosta State University.
