Falcons Close Out Season with Loss, 7-2
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women's tennis team (4-19) ended its 2011 season with a 7-2 loss to #11 Florida Southern College (15-4) in Pensacola, Florida. The Falcons two wins came at #6 singles and #3 doubles as FSC was unable to field a team of six players. Freshman Yulia Shvetsova (Huntsville, Ala./Bob Jones) won #6 six singles by default while Shvetsova and sophomore Amy McGucken (Selma, Ala./Morgan Academy) were awarded the #3 doubles match by default.
Junior Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway/Bergen Handels Gymnasium) led the team with two game wins. She fell 6-0, 6-2 to #31 Agnese Rozite at #1 singles. Senior Calli Robinson (Adel, Ga./Cook), senior Kodi Bobo (Cullman, Ala./West Point) and McGucken were the only other Falcons to pick up game wins at singles. Robinson fell to #32 Sabine Goge at #2 singles 6-0, 6-1. Bobo lost at #4 singles 6-1, 6-0 and McGucken fell at #5 singles 6-1, 6-0.
UM's #1 doubles fell 8-0 while #2 doubles fell 8-1.
The Falcons close out their second season in the Peach Belt Conference with an overall record of 4-19 and an 0-12 Peach Belt Conference record. UM's first year head coach Mark McGuigan has been hitting the road recruiting throughout the season and will be losing three seniors of this season's squad including Robinson, Bobo and Hayley Gant (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh). The Falcons will return its #1, #3, #5 and #6 singles players next year.
