Falcons Sweep Season Series with UAH, 3-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women's volleyball team (11-8) took on the University of Alabama-Huntsville (6-14) for the second time this season and came away with the same result a 3-0 win. The Falcons were led by senior Katie Johnson (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson) who had a match-high 11 kills along with three block assists.
The Falcons dominated from the first whistle taking a quick lead in set one and never looking back. The Chargers never led in the first set as the Falcons took control from the beginning winning 25-23. In the second set the Falcons lost the first point but that would be all the lead the Chargers would muster as the Falcons stormed back and controlled the set the rest of the way, 25-16. The third set was much like the second das the Falcons gave up an early lead but managed to come together at the end winning 25-19.
Freshman Brittany Wilson (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) was a defensive standout as she dug up a match-high 18 balls. Sophomore setter Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn./LaVergne) was just one dig shy of a double-double as she had 30 assist and nine digs.
Senior's Carson Anderson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) and Katy Handrick (De Pere, Wisc./De Pere) assisted on the offensive side of the ball as they had seven and six kills, respectively. Three Falcons each had two service aces including Handrick, Wilson and sophomore Rachel Wotitzky (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte).
The Falcons will return to the court Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3:00 p.m. as they host conference foe Augusta State University.
