Falcons Win in Thrilling Fashion, 3-1

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team (16-12, 6-6 PBC) evened out its Peach belt Conference record with a 3-1 win over UNC Pembroke on the road. The win gives the Falcons the season sweep over the Lady Braves who they beat at home 3-0. The Falcons were led by senior Katie Johnson (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson) who had 18 kills, 14 digs and three service aces.
The Falcons captured the first set 25-20 before dropping the second set 25-22. The third set belonged to the Falcons 25-19 and then things got interesting as the two teams entered the fourth set. The Lady Braves took a slight lead early in the set but it would be short-lived as the two teams went back-and-forth never giving up a big lead. The two teams continued to battle past the 25 point mark and took the set into extra points with the Falcons eventually winning 29-27.
Johnson led the Falcons in kills while senior Carson Anderson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) chipped in 13 kills. Senior Katy Handrick (De Pere, Wisc./De Pere) and junior Rebecca Dowd (Dothan, Ala./Providence Christian School) each had 12 kills and 15 digs for a pair of double-doubles.
Freshman Brittany Wilson (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) had a huge day on defense as she had a match-high 32 digs. Sophomore Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn./LaVergne) continued her strong play at setter as she had 59 assists and 11 digs.
The Falcons will return to the court Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Florida for a non-conference match.
