Three Falcons Named to PBC All-Academic Teams
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's volleyball team was awarded three players on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Teams. Sophomore Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn./LaVergne) was named First Team All-Academic while seniors Katy Handrick (De Pere, Wisc./De Pere) and Lauren Markle (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) picked up a Second Team nods.
These were the first PBC All-Academic honors for the women's volleyball program in their first season as member of the Peach Belt Conference.
Garrison holds a 4.00 GPA in general studies at Montevallo. Handrick has a 3.20 GPA in chemistry while Markle holds a 3.65 GPA in management.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
