Bailey Coleman Named Volleyball Assistant Coach

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo volleyball head coach Katie O’Brien announced Wednesday the hiring of Bailey Coleman as her assistant coach. Coleman comes to Montevallo after spending the last two years as the graduate assistant at Oklahoma City University. She was also the Oklahoma Peak Performance Club Volleyball coach for the past two seasons.

“We are excited to have Bailey join our staff,” said O’Brien. “I look forward to her working with our defense and assisting me with all the facets of running a successful volleyball program.”

Coleman played at Division I Georgia Southern University from 2004-07. She remains in the record books for tallying the fourth most digs in a career (1,108). She also posted 858 kills and 60 service aces for her career. In her senior season, she led the Eagles in digs per game (3.28). She helped lead the team to the Southern Conference Quarterfinals three times (2005, 2006, 2007) and the semi-finals in 2004.

“I’m excited to begin working with coach O’Brien to improve on the successes she has had over the past two seasons," said Coleman. “I think my intensity and drive to improve will be an asset to the Montevallo volleyball program."

She began her coaching career at Oklahoma City University in August of 2008 where she assisted the head coach in recruiting, practices and travel. She helped the Stars to a 33-8 record in 2008 and a berth in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament semi-finals and a 51-28 record over her two years. Coleman was responsible for the Oklahoma City defense and passing. She was responsible for fundraising events and she monitored all players’ academic progress.

Coleman is a 2008 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. She earned her master’s of education in applied behavioral studies in June from Oklahoma City University.
