AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team (13-18) ended its 2011 season with a 3-0 loss to Flagler College (26-6) in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. A trio of hitters led the Falcons including freshman Michelle Walker (Houston, Texas/Elkins), sophomore Manyi Ati (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) and sophomore Michelle Carle (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements). Walker had 11 kills while Ati and Carle each had 10.
Walker had just three errors while hitting .320 for the match she added seven digs and a pair of blocks. Ati struggled as she hit just .194. Carle had four digs and a pair of blocks to go along with her 10 kills.
Senior libero Rachel Wotitzky (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte) led the team with 19 digs while freshman Brianna Guzinski (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) added 10. Senior setter Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn./LaVergne) had 34 assists and eight digs.
The Falcons fell in straight sets 25-18, 26-24 and 25-21.
UM hit .212 as a team but were unable to slow down the Saints offense which hit .316.
The Falcons will say farewell to three seniors including Wotitzky, Garrison and Jessica Guidry (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Pensacola State College). All three have been key pieces in the Falcons line-up over the past few seasons. They all helped lead the Falcons to the programs first NCAA Tournament match win last season in the First Round of the NCAA Southeast Regional.
