Falcons Honored by the USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Montevallo women’s cross country team under the direction of head coach Michael Marquardt was named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Teams list for the 2009 season. Sophomore Ginny Davis (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) was named a USTFCCCA 2009 Division II Cross Country All-Academic Honoree.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50% of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
The Falcons are one of just six Peach Belt schools to be given the distinguished honor. UM joins Augusta State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University and Georgia College and State University on the list.
UM as a team posted a 3.30 GPA in 2009 and had their best conference and regional finish in school history. UM finished third at the PBC Championship and sixth at the Southeast Region Championship.
Davis was one of just 19 Peach Belt Conference runners to be named to the list. She is also the first ever Montevallo All-Academic honoree.
