AUGUSTA, Ga.- Freshman Haley Evans (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) of the University of Montevallo women's cross country team was named Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Week. This is the first PBC Runner of the Week honor for Evans and second for the cross country team. Evans joins fellow freshman harrier Kaley Glover (Opelika, Ala./Beauregard) as the lone teammates to be named PBC Runners of the Week this season.
Evans had a record-breaking weekend as she snapped the University of Montevallo school record for a 5k. Her 19:19.00 time at the Gulf Coast Stampede earned her a 15th place finish among a number of Division I programs. The Falcons as a team finished seventh overall but were the number two Division II program behind the University of West Florida. Evans has run in four races in her career and has already cracked the top-10 times in Montevallo history twice including her record breaking performance this past weekend.
The Falcons will get back to racing on Friday, Oct. 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of the South Invite. This race will be the final tune-up prior to the Peach Belt Conference Championship.
