Falcons Fly to Victory at the Tiger Twilight Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn.- The University of Montevallo women's cross country team earned its first race victory of the season at the Tiger Twilight Invitational hosted by Sewanee The University of the South. The Falcons beat out two other teams to capture the victory as they won over the host school as well as Birmingham Southern College. Freshmen Haley Evans (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) and Kaley Glover (Opelika, Ala./Beauregard) finished first and second to lead the Falcons to victory.

The race marked the first 6k run on the Falcons schedule this season. Evans clocked in at 23:45.01 while Glover came in at 23:56.11. The next finisher for the Falcons was sophomore Ginny Davis (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) who finished fifth with a time of 24:13.68.

Montevallo rounded out its scorers with an 11th place finish by junior January Waters (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) and a 14th place showing by sophomore Georgia Izard (Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic). Waters ran the course in 25:06.19 while Izard completed the race in 25:42.53.

Two other Falcons competed in the race as sophomores Katherine Schofield (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) and Whitney Adkins (Conyers, Ga./Heritage) crossed the line in 16th and 19th, respectively.

The Falcons will get back to racing on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 a.m. at the Peach Belt Conference Championship hosted by the University of North Carolina Pembroke.
