Falcons Finish Third at PBC Championship, Three Named All-Conference

LUMBERTON, N.C.- The University of Montevallo women's cross country team raced to its best conference meet finish in school history as the Falcons finished third among the 11 team field at the Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championship. Three Falcons were named to the All-Conference squads. Freshman Haley Evans (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) was named First Team All-Conference while sophomore Ginny Davis (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) and freshman Kaley Glover (Opelika, Ala./Beauregard) were named Second Team All-Conference.
Evans paced the Falcons finishing sixth in the 72 person field. She ran the 6k course in 24:02.88. Davis finished just three spots back in ninth place with a time of 24:18.51. Glover captured All-Conference honors with a 13th place finish in a time of 24:28.29.
The Falcons other two scorers were junior January Waters (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) who crossed the finish line in 29th with a time of 25:30.32 and sophomore Georgia Izard (Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll Catholic) who finished in 34th with a time of 25:53.36.
The Falcons finished just one point ahead of fourth-place Clayton State and just four points behind second-place Georgia College and State University.
The women's cross country team was the first Montevallo program in school history to compete for a Peach Belt Conference title since joining the conference this year. The third-place finish tops last season's seventh-place finish at the Gulf South Conference Championship.
The Falcons will now head to the NCAA Southeast Region Championship race as they compete against the best teams from the PBC, Conference Carolinas and the South Atlantic Conference. The race will be hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. on Nov. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
