Four Falcons Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Award

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Montevallo women’s cross country team had four runners named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country All-Academic list for the 2011 season. Junior Haley Evans (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope), sophomore In-Mi Matsunaga (Enterprise, Ala./Enterprise), freshman Lauren Recchia (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) and senior Katherine Schofield (Gainesville, Ga./Brookwood) were named to the list.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team in Division II, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or greater through the most-recent semester, completed at least 12 credit hours in the semester of cross country competition, and placed in the top 50 percent at the most recent NCAA National Championships or in the top 30 percent at the NCAA Regional Championships.

The Falcons were one of six Peach Belt Conference teams to place runners on the list. UM and UNC Pembroke led the conference with four honorees each while Augusta State University and Clayton State University each had three. Flagler College and Georgia College each placed one runner on the list.

A total of 354 student-athletes represent the 117 institutions that compose the group.
