MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo senior Kaley Glover earned Peach Belt Conference women's cross country Runner of the Week honors Sept. 4 after posting the fastest 5K time in the conference during the first weekend of the season.
Glover, an Opelika native, finished second at the Falcons' Early Bird Classic on Friday evening. The 2011 first-team All-Conference runner covered the Montevallo course, which will serve as host for the Peach Belt Conference Championships, in 19:29, becoming one of only two conference runners to cover a 5K distance in less than 20 minutes.
Glover, who graduated from Beauregard High School, finished behind Elena Linn, a former runner at Georgia Tech who ran unattached. For Glover, it is her second consecutive sub-20 time on a 5K course dating back to last season.
Glover and the rest of the Falcons, who were picked to defend their 2011 Peach Belt Conference Championship in a preseason coaches poll, will return to action Sept. 8 at the Earl Jacoby Memorial race in Huntsville.
